The Cambridge Fire Investigation Unit (FIU) responds to all major fires in the city and is available 24 hours a day to investigate any fire related incident. The duties of the fire investigator include structure fires, motor vehicle fires and reports, burns, explosions, documentation, photographs and enforcement of laws and statutes related to fires & investigations. 

The Fire Investigation Unit works closely with the Cambridge Police Department, local Fire Departments, District Attorney’s Office along with State and Federal Law Enforcement Agencies with the shared goal of reducing loss, preventing injury, investigations and providing a safe community. 

The Fire Investigation the Unit also partners with District Attorney’s Office, Cambridge Police, and other area Fire Departments in maintaining a Youth Fire Setters Program with the goal of educating youths involved in fire related incidents. The program is available for all area youths in need of assistance. 

The Fire Investigation Unit was created in 1979 is available 24 hours a day.
