Master Box Regulation

 

In accordance with MGL Chapter 148 Section 28, auxiliarized fire alarm systems (master boxes) are required by the Head of the Fire Department for the following properties:

  • High-rise buildings (structures more than 70ft)
  • Schools (public and private)
  • Hospitals
  • Nursing Homes
  • City Owned Buildings
  • Buildings which incorporate certain hazardous operations (use of flammable or hazardous chemicals, liquids and gases)
  • Residential buildings containing more than twelve dwelling units

Note: Installation of an auxiliarized master box does not waive the fire protection supervision requirements of 780 CMR Section 9 State Building Code
