Join us for the launch of an exciting new sister city relationship between Cambridge and the City of Les Cayes, Haiti! The program will include discussions with Mayor David Maher, Professor Peniel Joseph andThe Cambridge-Haiti Sister City Committee.
We'll also have time to meet, mingle and discover more about this effort to connect these two communities as we:
• Learn about the history and current events in Haiti with Dr. Joseph from Tufts University;
• Find out why the connections between people and governments are so important; and
• Hear about the powerful experience of Cambridge’s most recent delegation to Haiti; why the members are so hopeful for the future; what will come next; and how you can support this effort.

About this Initiative:
The Cambridge-Haiti Sister City Committee is working with the Cambridge Peace Commission to establish a sister city relationship between Cambridge and Les Cayes, Haiti. An initial working delegation from Cambridge visited Haiti in May 2013 to listen and learn with one goal in mind: understanding how to use the resources of Cambridge to support and expand educational, environmental and public health work in the Les Cayes region of Haiti.
About the Speaker:
Peniel E. Joseph is Professor of History at Tufts University and the author of the award-winning "Waiting ‘Til the Midnight Hour: A Narrative History of Black Power in America." He is a frequent national commentator on issues of race, democracy and civil rights who appears on C- SPAN’s Book TV, NPR and PBS’s NewsHour. During the 2008 Democratic and Republican National Conventions, Professor Joseph provided historical commentary for NewsHour.
