Description

Calendar event image

Allison Smith presents Common Goods as a crafting performance in the park and installation at the nearby Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Harvard University (24 Quincy Street). Exploring the history of making in Cambridge, Smith will lead, and invite guest artists to lead colonial-era making workshops and discussions to address issues of early moments in statehood, revolution, and the capacity of objects to effect and reflect change.

For this guest workshop, Forms for Thinking the Commons, Leemann and Bailey will share their practice of thinking through analogies to develop a thick set of connections in and around the idea of the commons. Working with short text excerpts, images, diagrams, and of course crafted objects, Leemann and Bailey will set a space for participants to look more closely at their existing relation to the commons and to feel for what is yet possible.
