The Community Benefits Advisory Committee is engaged in a process to act on the Guiding Principles for Community Benefits Funding established by City Council. In addition to establishing rules, regulations, and guidelines, the Committee is primarily responsible for soliciting and evaluating applications from non-profits to provide services tied to the funding principles. To consider and integrate the voice and expertise of service providers and the nonprofit community, the Committee will host Listening Sessions to solicit feedback on its framework and approach to administering Community Benefits Funds.

The Cambridge Energy Alliance and Mothers Out Front are hosting a free bulb swap, where residents can exchange up to three incandescent or CFL lightbulbs for energy-efficient LED lightbulbs. This is one in a series of bulb swaps this spring. LED bulbs use 5-6 times less energy than incandescent bulbs and 40% less energy than CFL bulbs, resulting in significant savings on energy bills. In addition to financial savings, LED bulbs are mercury-free and can last up to 20 years.
The swaps are free and open to all Cambridge residents. The events will offer standard A19 LEDs, which fit most lamps and fixtures, and BR30 LEDs, typically used for recessed lighting. Exchanges are limited to 3 bulbs per household to ensure supply for all participants.
