FEMA Field Team at Home Depot to Provide Guidance on Mold & Mildew Removal
The Federal Emergency Management Agency will have a field team of community education and outreach specialists on-hand at the Home Depot, 75 Mystic Avenue, Somerville until further notice to provide guidance to residents regarding proper procedures for dealing with mold and mildew removal, and disposal of flood damaged materials.
Risk-reduction specialists will be available daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to provide store visitors with easily accessible all-hazards planning tools and tips. The specialists anticipate many residents will be seeking advice about affordable prevention measures to reduce vulnerability to flooding, including the merits of installing backflow valves.
At the information kiosk within the store, the FEMA team will provide risk-reduction guidance and information including:
* In-depth guides and planning information for individual and household preparedness;
* Basic “how-to” measures to lessen risks to a home’s electrical system, water heater or household appliances;
* One-to-one explanations of all FEMA readiness and recovery programs, including the National Flood Insurance
* A wide range of informative publications in multiple languages on protecting homes from flood damage.
To date, nearly 100,000 Bay State residents have been counseled at various home improvement locations and special events during the three-month outreach effort. Severe spring floods resulted in a presidential disaster declaration to help affected residents in Bristol, Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk and Worcester counties.
