Cambridge READS Special Author Event October 25
New England native Sebastian Junger, author of WAR, which is the Cambridge READS 2011 Community Read, will be speaking at Harvard’s Sanders Theatre Tuesday Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to this author event are free, but limited, and are available at Cambridge Public Library, (344 Broadway), Harvard Bookstore, Porter Square Books and Harvard Box Office.
For over a year, Junger and photojournalist Tim Hetherington were embedded with the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team in the remote and heavily contested Korengal Valley of eastern Afghanistan. The professional result was twofold: the book, WAR and the documentary, Restrepo - winner of the 2010 Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and Academy Award Nominee for Best Documentary.
As part of the Cambridge READS ‘Season of Remembrance’ film series honoring those who served, Junger’s movie, Restrepo, will be shown Thursday, Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m., at Cambridge Public Library, 449 Broadway.
Junger is also the internationally acclaimed, best-selling author of The Perfect Storm, A Death in Belmont and Fire. As a contributing editor to Vanity Fair and a contributor to ABC News, he has covered major international news stories around the globe. He is a recipient of The National Magazine Award and SAIS Novartis Prize for Journalism. For more information on him, please visit www.sebastianjunger.com.
