Cambridge Discovery Days 2012
Discover Cambridge with free walks and events on a variety of Cambridge topics, in neighborhoods throughout the city. On Saturday, Aug. 4, explore Kendall Square with Charles Sullivan, Executive Director of the Cambridge Historical Commission; go back in time to Captain’s Island (today’s Magazine Beach); learn about Cambridge’s early contributions to the Civil War; meet Clara Barton, “Angel of the Battlefield” and founder of the American Red Cross.
On Saturday, Aug. 11, discover modern architecture in Old Cambridge; stroll along historic Harvard Street; learn about the life of the poet and scholar James Russell Lowell; explore behind the scenes at Fresh Pond.
Programs begin at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day, all across the city. No reservations are necessary for most events—simply meet the guide at the spot where the tour begins or gather at the site where an event takes place—and off you go!
