Put on your dancing shoes and join more than 100,000 people for the 20th annual Cambridge Carnival Sunday, Sept. 9, from Noon - 7 p.m., in Kendall Square.  Cambridge Carnival is one of the area's largest festivals celebrating the best of Cambridge’s diversity through a traditional Caribbean style Carnival.

The highlight of the festival is a grand costume parade accompanied by rich rhythms promoting a myriad of cultures.  Revelers masquerade through the streets of Cambridge in dazzling handmade costumes dancing to the international beat and flavor of Carnival. The costume parade route spans 1.3 miles, starts at 12:30 p.m. and begins near the Charles River at River Street, runs through Mass Ave., and ends in Kendall Square near MIT, Cambridge. The festivities in Kendall Square begin at Noon and feature live music, a KidsFest with free interactive activities for children and families from 6 months up, as well as ethnic foods and global crafts.

Three music stages will showcase a powerful line up of performers and the festival promises to be fun for the whole family. The International Stage (at corner of Ames and Main Streets) will feature Aria from Kingston, Jamaica (Reggae)  Kolors Band (Soca, Xalypso), Gaia Roots International (Female Roots Band), Newz Band (Haitian Kompa), Pentecostal Tabernacle Worship Team (Gospel), Samba Viva (Brazilian Samba Band), and King Ilabash and the Reggae Connection (Reggae). The Rhythm Stage (on Main Street near the Kendall Square MBTA stop offers interactive music and dance performances and includes acoustic and folkloric rhythms and dance from around the globe.  The Viewing Stage (Main and Albany Street) is where the costumes groups are presented formally in front of an esteemed team of judges. Pre and Post parade, there will be local DJ’s featured spinning their best Caribbean tunes. Steel bands will wrap up the parade brining down the Cambridge Carnival Community parade.

Cambridge Carnival can be accessed via the MBTA red line Central Square for the parade and Kendall Square for the festival.
