Public Invited to Try Out for US National Teams on the Hunt for 2016 Players
Athletic Standard will hold free open tryouts for athletes of all ages to compete for US National Teams Saturday, Apr. 27, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Frisoli Youth Center, 61 Willow St., Cambridge. Athletic Standard has been engaged by a number of US National Governing Bodies (NGBs) to find undiscovered talent for consideration to compete in 2016 in Rio.
The open tryouts, called Path to the Podium™, are open to the public and free of charge to all athletes. The Boston and the surrounding communities is the pilot area to participate in the Path to the Podium program.
Cambridge-based Athletic Standard is committed to providing athletes from all over New England the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show their stuff and potentially embark on their own path to career or educational success.
Student-athletes who test with Athletic Standard receive a score on the Athletic Standard Index, the company’s proprietary testing algorithm for measuring athletic ability. With this score, the company is able to match student-athletes with the skills and performance US National Teams are looking for. Teams such as USA Rugby, USA Team Handball and USA Cycling are among the NGBs on the hunt.
Since 2011, Athletic Standard has tested more than 21,000 student-athletes, including Elon Fyfield, a Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School graduate, named multiple times to The Boston Globe’s All-Scholastic Volleyball team. Fyfield tested with Athletic Standard earlier this year and was offered a spot on USA Team Handball after being invited to train at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid. He currently competes on the Men’s Volleyball team at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne.
