9/14/2009

The Cambridge Complete Count Committee will hold a Special Presentation on Monday, September 21 at 5 p.m.  in the Sullivan Chambers of Cambridge City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., to Kick Off  “Complete Count Cambridge” – the city’s campaign to make sure that every resident in Cambridge is counted for the 2010 U.S. Census.

The brief speaking program will include: Mayor E. Denise Simmons, Bruce Kaminski, Deputy Regional Director for the Boston Regional Census Center, Ana A. Goncalves, Bilingual Coordinator, Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth, and Paulo Pinto, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS).

The Committee, which includes city staff and community leaders, will meet regularly over the next few months to develop a public awareness campaign to encourage residents to participate in the U.S. 2010 Census.  The Census Form will be mailed out in March 2010 and should be returned by April 1 – Census Day.  Data from the U.S. Census determines the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives and affects the amount of federal funds awarded to states and communities.
