In order to complete paving work that was begun last weekend, the eastbound side of the Cambridge Street Tunnel (traveling away from Harvard Square toward Broadway/Cambridge St.) will be closed on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 7 a.m. through Sunday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. During this closure, emergency vehicles will be able to access the westbound lanes, but will need to detour when traveling east.

Over the next three weeks, crews will be painting tunnel walls and ceiling on the westbound side of the tunnel (traveling towards Harvard Square). The tunnel will be closed weeknights, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m.-5 a.m.

A separate notification will be sent out once painting begins on the eastbound side. Emergency vehicles will have access to the tunnel in both directions during the weeknight shutdowns.

Cyclists are permitted to travel on the tunnel surface area (the overpass). MBTA bus routes and schedules will be affected, so we are asking the public to check in with the MBTA to view adjusted schedules. Please see image and more information on detour routes further below:
