Minutes of Meeting, Tuesday, November 19,1996

To provide access to all the people of Cambridge and to insure that we manage our resources well, Library 21 is gathering information from as many groups as possible about what the people want.

What would you like in the library?

A. Community Activity Center

  • Programs once a week or two times a month for Senior citizens

B. Community Information Center

  • Program to help people find housing in Cambridge
  • Information on housing programs
  • Information on how to find a job
  • Bulletin board with jobs
  • Notice board for jobs in community
  • Elderly care jobs
  • People to help us get into college with information
  • Information on how to study something to get another job like Boston Public Library

C. Formal Education Support Center

  • Have Community Learning Center back in library
  • Have larger rooms for classes
  • Have quiet rooms for classes
  • Tutors to help with learning

D. Independent Learning Center

  • Training to use computer
  • Workshop how to find a job
  • One-on-one help with reading- keep it very private
  • Help with learning to use computer
  • Learn how to write
  • Courses in programming
  • Learn how to write- books and resources to help us learn how to write

E. Popular Materials Lending Library

  • Big place for reading
  • More electronics
  • Computers

  • Easy access for everybody

  • It is hard to find Central Square Library. It is dark and difficult and scary to get there
  • Bigger library in Central Square
