August 2011 Recycling eNewsletter
Donate Your Stuff!
Want to donate clothing, furniture, or household items? Need something that doesn't have to be brand new? Swap, rent, or borrow it! You can choose to reduce waste and support local organizations that accept donations year-round or sell second-hand goods. Our new flyer includes a map of Cambridge showing 14 clothing drop boxes, 16 thrift stores & consignment shops and 11 second hand stores for furniture and household goods!
Improved Recycling in Cambridge Parks
Since single stream recycling started in the fall of 2010, Cambridge residents have recycled 14% more tons than the prior year. When we recycle more, the City saves up to $75 for every ton diverted from the trash. With these savings, DPW recently installed new recycling bins at several parks: Donnelly Field, Sennott Park, Raymond Park, Hoyt Field, Russell/Comeau Field, Rindge Field, Lindstrom Field, Tobin Field, Ahern Field, Clement Morgan Park, the Cambridge Common and soon at the Joan Lorentz Park. Get a free sticker to show your support for recycling – take the 50% pledge today. Thank you, a little effort makes a big difference!
Sign up for a Recycling or Trash Tour
City employees and Cambridge residents are invited. Maximum of 25 people per tour, first come first served. Sorry, but kids under 16 cannot attend, and you must be able to walk at a steady pace, often on narrow metal catwalks and on stairs. We meet at DPW, 147 Hampshire St and carpool. Email email@example.com to request a spot for a specific date and we’ll send you more info. Let us know if you can drive and how many people you can take.

Take Action and Volunteer
We need volunteers at events this fall to encourage people to take the 50% recycling pledge and opt out of junk mail through Catalog Choice. You’ll have fun at events because you get to enjoy the music, educate people, and get a free t-shirt. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help out at one or more event in September and October.
