Teens Give Back During Cambridge Police Community Service Week

Over 35 Cambridge teenagers partnered with police to give back to their community

Community Service Week 2

The Cambridge Police Department organized and sponsored its first ever Community Service Week for teens during school vacation from April 16 – 20.

Cambridge high school students were invited to give back to their community by volunteering up to 20 hours of their school vacation alongside Cambridge Police Officers.

Throughout the week over 35 Cambridge teens partnered with Cambridge Police Officers to perform various projects throughout the city.  These projects included; cleaning and repainting the Margaret Fuller House food pantry, covering graffiti on over 35 USPS mailboxes, organizing the East End House food pantry, providing yard clean-up for senior citizens in East Cambridge, laying mulch and wood chips at the Kennedy School playground, and preparing the pathways at the Fresh Pond Reservation.

The department provided lunch to the participants each day, and held a daily raffle giving teens the opportunity to win $10 gift certificates to Christina’s and/or JP Lick’s ice cream shops in Cambridge.

The Cambridge Police Department would like to thank our community partners at the US Postal Service, the Department of Public Works, the Cambridge Office of Workforce Development, the Cambridge Housing Authority, East End House, Margaret Fuller House, Ranger Jean Rogers of the Fresh Pond Reservation, City Paint, and La Hacienda restaurant for helping make this a successful week and enjoyable week for all who participated in, and benefited from, the service projects.

A special thanks also goes out to all of the teens who volunteered their time to help give back and make their community a better place.
