Incident on Washburn Ave Resolved Peacefully

Male taken into custody without incident

At approximately 4:09 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, Cambridge Police responded to a call for gunshots on Washburn Ave in North Cambridge.

The Cambridge Police Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiators responded, and Washburn Ave was closed from the Somerville line to Massachusetts Avenue.

Police made contact with a male alone inside his apartment who surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody at 5:25 p.m.  The male was then transported to the hospital for evaluation.

No other parties were involved and no one was injured during the incident.

The investigation is still ongoing, but at this time police believe that the male fired several gunshots into a pile of books and was not directing the shots at anyone.
