Seniors Complete 8-Week Cambridge Police Senior Citizen Academy
Participants learned about police units and toured public safety facility
5/7/2012
Cambridge Police Senior Citizen Outreach Officer Daniel Burroso facilitated an 8-week program for seniors at the C
hurchill Avenue Apartments in North Cambridge.
During the program, participants learned about various police priorities, including traffic enforcement, narcotics investigations, and domestic violence. The seniors also learned about the tools and tactics used by the Cambridge Police Bomb Unit and Special Response Team.
“I’m glad that we continue to offer this program to seniors in our community,” said Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert C. Haas. “I believe this is a valuable program which is informative and encourages dialogue between police and those they serve.”
Eighteen Cambridge senior citizens successfully completed the academy and took a field trip to the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility where they toured the building and practiced their aim using the department’s firearms training simulator.
