ADVISORY: Police Investigating Report of a Suspicious Person

Anyone with information asked to come forward

6/15/2012

At approximately 7:00 p.m. on June 14, a third party reported that a male allegedly approached a young girl on Dudley Street and asked her if she wanted a ride before attempting to pull her into a white van.

The girl was not injured, and reported the incident to a passerby who reunited the girl with her father at their home on Dudley Street.

This third party did not report the incident to police until approximately 9:00 p.m., and after searching Dudley Street and speaking with residents, officers were unable to locate the child or her father.  The family has not reported the incident to police.

At this time, police are working to determine the validity of the report and are sharing the following information with the community as a precaution while we investigate the incident and attempt to make contact with the family involved:

Suspect is described as white male, age 45-55, approximately 5’10”, with a heavyset build and receding/balding hair.  He was reportedly wearing an oversized white t-shirt, smoking a cigarette, and observed near a white van.

Extra patrols have been added to the area where the incident allegedly occurred.

Anyone with information about this incident, especially the family involved, is asked to contact the Cambridge Police Department at 617-349-3300.
