Cops for Kids with Cancer presented a $5,000 gift to a deserving family at the Cambridge Police Department on Friday, October 19, 2012.

The Gonzales family of Cambridge recently found out that they would have to leave their home.  The parents, whose 16 year old son Jorge is receiving treatment for a cancerous brain tumor, were struggling to find a new place for Jorge and his three siblings to live.Cops for Kids with Cancer

Fortunately, one of Jorge’s caregivers at the Massachusetts General Hospital contacted Cops for Kids with Cancer and the charity was able to help!

“This is a lifesaver,” said Jorge’s mother.  “We’re going to have a new place to live thanks to you.  Thank you very much.”

Representatives for Cops for Kids with Cancer, along with active participant Cambridge Police Lieutenant Pauline Carter-Wells, presented a $5,000 gift to Jorge and his family, making it possible for them to find new housing and allow Jorge to continue his vital cancer treatments.

“No one takes care of the families.  Everyone goes for the cure, but they forget the hardships that families go through,” said Robert P. Faherty, Chairman of the Board for the charity.  “That’s why Cops for Kids with Cancer came into being because we know how difficult it is for families that have a child with cancer.”

Cops For Kids With Cancer is a small organization made of law enforcement officers and friends of law enforcement. They are a federally recognized 501 ( C ) (3) not-for-profit organization, and all the money raised goes to kids with cancer. No one in the organization receives a salary, all are volunteers.
