Cambridge Police Department Promotes Two to New Ranks
One promoted to rank of Police Lieutenant, one to Police Sergeant
The Cambridge Police Department held a promotion ceremony at the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility on the morning of January 22, 2013.
At the ceremony, John W. Boyle was promoted to the rank of Police Lieutenant and Frederick T. Leung was promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant.
Lieutenant John W. Boyle is a second generation Cambridge Police Officer. His father, Walter Boyle, was with the department for 30 years, moving up the ranks to become the first Police Superintendent and serving as Acting Commissioner during 1995-96.
Sergeant Frederick T. Leung, a second generation American, was a practicing optometrist for five years before deciding to pursue a career as a police officer. Leung represents a historic moment for the department as he is the first Asian-American to be promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant.
City Manager Robert W. Healy, Deputy City Manager Richard Rossi, Mayor Henrietta Davis, City Councillor Craig Kelley, and Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert C. Haas joined his Command Staff, city dignitaries, family members, and friends at the ceremony to honor the officers and congratulate them on their promotions.
“We are so very proud of our Cambridge Police Department,” said Mayor Henrietta Davis. “It always amazes me that our small city does so many wonderful things, and a lot of that is due to the police department where many great initiatives begin.”
City Manager Robert W. Healy addressed the promotees, saying, “You represent a piece of the future of this great department. I want to congratulate you for your work; your good work in the past, and your even better work in the future.”
“We really want to thank the families,” said Commissioner Robert C. Haas. “It is really your support, your love, and your commitment to these officers that is so meaningful and so important to them.”
Boyle and Leung then recited their oaths of office to Interim City Clerk Donna P. Lopez before receiving their badges from Commissioner Haas.
