Tax Forms & Tax Assistance
Each year we provide state tax forms and a wide range of the most common federal tax forms and publications.
Tax Assistance for 2017 will run from February 3 through April 15 in the Main Library's Community Room on Fridays 12 - 4:30pm and Saturdays 10am - 3pm. Tax Help will also be available on Mondays from 5:00pm - 7:30pm starting February 13. There will be no tax help on March 10, 11, 13, 17, or 18 due to Harvard's Spring Break.
To get your taxes done you MUST bring:
- Your social security card or other government issued ID showing your social security number (a W-2 is not sufficient)
- Government issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, etc.)
- Social security cards for all dependents (and spouse if filling a joint return)
- Any tax forms you have received (W-2, 1099-HC, etc.)
TaxHelp is an all volunteer group from Harvard Law School. They operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. The program has been extremely popular this year, and while Tax Help tries to accommodate everyone, service is not guaranteed.
Here is a list of other VITA sites in the area.
The Cambridge Public Library offers tax assistance courtesy of the Harvard Law School TaxHelp Program. This program usually runs during the months of February, March and April. Over the years, students from Harvard Law School have helped hundreds of library users prepare their tax returns. Although this service is open to all, the primary aim of this free program is to help the disadvantaged, the elderly, and those new to this country. Individuals with complex tax filings or unique tax issues are advised to seek professional tax assistance.
