The following databases are available from home, as well as at any of the Cambridge Public Libraries. Academic OneFile: Academic OneFile is a source for peer-reviewed, full-text articles from the world's English language journals and reference sources. It has extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects, & millions of full text articles available in both PDF and HTML. Boston Metropolitan Collection: Contains full-text of 143 local newspapers including the Cambridge Chronicle (8/05- current), Arlington, Somerville, Belmont, as well as transcripts from local television stations. Cambridge Chronicle: Full-text of the Cambridge Chronicle back to August 2005. Expanded Academic ASAP: An index of 1,580 academic and general interest periodicals, covering the period 1980 to the present. Subjects covered include the arts, humanities, social sciences, sciences and technology. General Businessfile ASAP: Indexes over 900 general business and finance periodicals, trade journals, and local business journals with full-text for 460 titles, covering the period 1982 to the present. Includes Company Profiles, a directory of 180,000 public and private companies and over 50,000 investment reports. General Reference Center Gold: A general interest database that integrates a variety of sources in one easy-to-use interface. Use General Reference Center Gold to find articles from newspapers, reference books, and periodicals, many with full-text and images. Find the latest current events, popular culture, business and industry coverage, the arts and sciences, sports, hobbies, and more. Health Reference Center-Academic: Contains articles from medical reference books, over 500 pamphlets, and 165 medical magazines, including 110 in full-text, covering the period 1994 to the present. Historical New York Times: Full-text access to the New York Daily Times from 1851-1857 and the New York Times from 1857-2005. InfoTrac OneFile: InfoTrac OneFile is a one-stop source for news and periodical articles on a wide range of topics: business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature and art, politics, science, social sciences, sports, technology, and many general interest topics. Millions of full-text articles. InfoTrac Student Edition: Formerly SuperTOM, this database is designed for high school students, with access to a variety of indexed and full-text magazines, newspapers and reference books for information on current events, the arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, history, sports and more. Kids InfoBits: Targets the research needs of students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. Massachusetts History Online: Contains full-text articles gathered from almost 50 sources that directly relate to Massachusetts history. Massachusetts Newsstand: Boston Globe (1980-Current), Boston Herald (1991-Current), Berkshire Eagle (2005-Current), BusinessWest (Chicopee) (1992-Current), North Adams Transcript (2005-Current), Patriot Ledger (Quincy) (1991-Current), Plymouth County Business Review (1991-Current), Sentinel & Enterprise (Fitchburg) (2005-Current), The Sun (Lowell) (2004-Current), Telegram & Gazette (Worcester) (1989-Current), Gazette (Haverhill (12/31/92 - 8/9/97), Standard Times (New Bedford (1/4/92 - 8/19/97). New York Times: From 1985 to the present. Biography Resource Center: This database combines award-winning biographies from respected Gale Group sources. Biography Resource Center also includes full-text articles from hundreds of periodicals. Search for people based on one or more personal facts such as birth and death year, nationality, ethnicity, occupation or gender, or combine criteria to create a highly-targeted custom search. With the Complete Marquis Who's Who(R), find quick reference information on an additional 900,000 people. Contemporary Literary Criticism: "CLC-Select" is an extensive collection of critical essays on contemporary authors. Each entry contains a biographical/critical introduction, listing of principal works, and sources for further study. Encyclopedia Britannica Online: Full-text online of the classic encyclopedia. Gale Virtual Reference Library: The Gale Virtual Reference Library is a database of encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. Global Road Warrior: The Global Road Warrior is a comprehensive business travel, telecommunications and business culture reference covering 175 countries. Business travelers, travel planners, international communicators and businesspeople who need extensive coverage of these topics will find the most up-to-date information available in a highly organized and consistent format. Horn Book Guide Online: Searchable by author, illustrator, title, subject, and bibliographic data, as well as by rating assigned the book in the original Horn Book review. Literacy Reference Center: Highly graphical interface intended for public, academic and high school libraries. The primary goal of LRC is to assist high school and undergraduate English and Humanities students with homework and research assignments of a literary nature. Mango Languages: Mango is designed to equip you with conversational abilities from the very start. Whether you're learning how to order a pizza or ask when the game starts, Mango immerses you in real, everyday conversations in 12 different language courses. Naxos Music Library: Naxos Music Library is the world's largest online classical music library. Currently, it offers streaming access to more than 41,260 CDs with more than 591,300 tracks. On average, 500 new CDs are added to the library every month. Naxos Music Library: Jazz: Like the Naxos Music Library, but for jazz. NoveList: Electronic readers' advisory resource which assists fiction readers in finding new authors and titles. OverDrive: Digital audio download service that allows patrons to download audiobooks and ebooks to their computers and portable devices. They will be able to browse a website featuring Minuteman's collection of digital resources and check out titles, or place requests for titles currently "checked out". Oxford English Dictionary Online: Full access to the Second Edition and New Edition (in progress) of the Oxford English Dictionary. Oxford Reference Online Premium Collection: Brings together language and subject reference works from one of the world's biggest reference publishers into a single cross-searchable resource. The Premium Collection enhances the 100+ books in the Core Collection with an expanding range of key titles in the acclaimed Oxford Companions series plus the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations. ReferenceUSA: Provides information on over 12 million U.S businesses. The Testing & Education Reference Center: Search hundreds of occupations, take a career assessment and build a stellar resume; search for colleges, distance (online) learning opportunities, programs for international students, and nursing schools; search thousands of graduate, law, M.B.A., nursing, and distance learning (online) opportunities; search vocational schools, career colleges, information technology programs, executive education programs, and private secondary schools; prepare for the GED; civil service and military entrance exams; licensing tests for law enforcement, real estate, the postal service, and many other fields; plus college and graduate school admissions exams. Ulrich's Online: Ulrich's Periodicals Directory is a bibliographic database providing detailed, comprehensive, and authoritative information on serials published throughout the world. World Book Encyclopedia: World Book Online is based on the World Book Encyclopedia, developed by World Book Publishing, Inc. It includes access to over 31,000 encyclopedia articles, 6,000 Web links, 25,000 periodical articles, 800 videos, animations, and sounds, 400 interactive maps, and 3-D bubble views. |
