Authority:
Chapter 2.96 of the Cambridge Municipal Code.
Purpose:
The Commission works to maximize access to all aspects of Cambridge community life for individuals with disabilities, and strives to raise awareness of disability matters, to eliminate discrimination, and to promote equal opportunity for people with all types of disabilities – physical, mental and sensory. In addition, the Commission acts as a clearinghouse on disability and access issues throughout the City of Cambridge. The Commission provides information, referral, guidance, and technical assistance to individuals and their families, employers, public agencies, businesses and private non-profit organizations.
Membership:
11 members (one representative each from the Department of Public Works and the Department of Human Service Programs; at least 5 members are to be persons with disabilities; and remaining members are to be parents, friends or other interested persons.)
Term:
3 years with possible second term of three years; six years maximum
