Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What can I do to prepare for the various screening tests?
A: Not much, except make sure you really have the required typing skills because you will be tested. Persons who do not achieve a touch typing speed of 30WPM net of errors will not proceed further in the process. Typing is critically important given the need to quickly type into various computer systems the details of 911 telephone conversations and police and fire radio transmissions.
Q: Do I need a car if I am selected for this job?
A: Most current dispatchers have a car, a few commute on a bike, and sometimes dispatchers take public transit. There is underground parking available in the ECD facility for a fee.
