Process:
Step 1:
The applicant obtains and completes the Second Hand Goods Store License application form and Licensed Premises Inspection Approval form.
Step 2:
The applicant submits the Licensed Premises Inspection Approvals form to the Inspectional Services Department for zoning approval.
Step 3:
The applicant submits all forms along with:
- a 8.5 x 11 inch sketch or plan showing the store's street and number, entrances and exits, and a description of the items to be sold to the License Commission,
- a copy of the Articles of Organization (if a corporation) or a copy of the Business Certificate obtainable from the City Clerk's Office
- payment of $175 for a hearing and newspaper advertising fee
The License Commission will schedule a hearing on the second or fourth Tuesday of the month. The applicant must copy the ad from the TAB, notify abutters (according to the latest Assessor's list ) by certified mail, return receipt requested, and submit certified mail receipts to the License Commission.
Step 4:
The applicant submits the Licensed Premises Inspection Approvals form for ISD building inspector's approval and sign off. However, if the applicant has a current Certificate of Occupancy, this form is not required.
Step 5:
The Fire Department will inspect the site automatically based on the License Commission hearing agenda. The applicant does not have to obtain a sign-off from the Fire Department.
Step 6:
The License Commission issues the license one the license fee is paid and the approvals are received. The Police Department will do site monitoring.
