CAMBRIDGE, MA – June 22, 2017 – The Cambridge Public Library (CPL) is excited to partner with the non-profit, InnovatorsforPurpose (iFp) to offer STEAM based programming for grade school children in the library this summer. The program, titled “Wayfinders, connecting youth to the innovation economy,” will occur over the course of five weeks.

The program will take place at the Main Library, Monday through Friday from July 10th through August 11th. The programming will be broken into two categories: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM sessions focusing on Math & Science skills and 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM sessions will be studio time for students to develops hands on skills. CPL is developing morning programming for two weeks based on 3D modeling technology skills and will provide hands on experience with a 3D printer, 3D scanner, augmented reality and virtual reality systems.

“The Library’s 3D technology program, funded by the Friends of the Cambridge Public Library and the Rotary Club of Cambridge, provides a unique introduction to modeling concepts for a diverse range of Cambridge students at no cost,” said Maria McCauley, Director of Libraries. “We are thrilled to add it to our evolving CPL technology curriculum in addition to this partnership with iFp.”

iFp provides leadership, designs learning experiences and develops tools to motivate high-potential under-resourced youth to become next generation problem solvers. The partnership is a natural fit as CPL is working to develop more digital literacy programming to meet the needs of the next generation of patrons.

“We are very excited about our new partnership with the Cambridge Public Library. WayFinders connects youth with Cambridge’s rich history and its booming economy,” said Michael K. Dawson, co-founder, InnovatorsforPurpose. “Being at the library will be an invaluable resource when students are conducting research. We look forward to an exciting Summer with the team at the library.”
