City of Cambridge Seeks Participatory Budgeting Project Ideas

Participatory Budgeting idea collection starts June 1 and runs through July 31. 

The City of Cambridge is once again seeking project ideas to help improve Cambridge as part of its fifth Participatory Budgeting (PB) cycle. The public can submit their capital project ideas online from June 1 through July 31, 2018 or by contacting the Budget Office at (617) 349-4270 or pb@cambridgema.gov.
 
For this year’s process, the public will vote on how to spend $900,000 for capital projects to improve the community. Winning projects from past PB cycles include a public toilet in Central Square, musical instruments for CRLS, a freezer van for prepared food rescue, solar panels for the Main Library roof, water bottle fill stations, and many others. Last year, the City received more than 600 project ideas.
 
Participatory Budgeting is a democratic process in which community members directly decide how to spend part of the capital budget.  Volunteer Budget Delegates will help develop the best ideas into concrete proposals to be voted on by the community the first week in December.
