Next week, the City’s contractor, D’Allessandro Corporation, is expected to resume work on the Fawcett Street Reconstruction Project. Crews will mobilize to 130 Fawcett Street to begin constructing a Bioretention structure. The Bioretention structure will help remove contaminants and sedimentation from stormwater runoff in the area. The roadway directly in front of 130 Fawcett Street will be closed to through traffic. This work is expected to take 2 weeks to complete. Once crews have completed the installation of the Bioretention structure, crews will focus their efforts on completing the roadway and sidewalk restoration phase of the Fawcett Street Reconstruction Project.

The sidewalk reconstruction on Fawcett Street is expected to conclude in two months time.

On Wednesday, June 12, the City’s contractor, D’Allessandro Corporation, will be paving Fawcett Street from Smith Place to the bend on Fawcett Street. During paving operations, Fawcett Street (from Smith Place to the bend on Fawcett Street) will be CLOSED intermittently. General work hours will be from 7am-4pm. “No Parking” signs will be posted at least 24 hours in advance of construction.

On Tuesday, May 28, crews will begin pulverizing the roadway on Smith Place and Fawcett street in preparation for the final paving. Over the next three (3) to four (4) months, the City’s contractor, D’Allessandro Corporation, will begin to perform full depth reconstruction of new sidewalks and pedestrian ramps along the entire length of Fawcett Street, new street paving, and landscaping. Construction is anticipated to be completed in the Summer/Fall 2013.

There will be a temporary water service interruption in order to facilitate upgrades to the water main. Affected properties will have no water service tomorrow from 4am-5am. This water shutdown is weather pending, and should any changes to the schedule occur, effected properties will be notified with a separate notice. We will make every effort to expedite this work to minimize the length of time the water will be shut down.

Two crews are currently onsite this week. One crew is performing water main work at Smith Place and the other crew is located on Fawcett Street preparing for the full-depth reconstruction. Beginning the week of May 20th, the City’s contractor will begin the full-depth reconstruction phase of The Fawcett Street Project. While crews are constructing new sidewalks and roadway, parking restrictions will be in effect. Motorists will not be able to park on Fawcett Street between Smith Place and the bend at 115 Fawcett Street over the next month. During construction, additional parking can be found on Wilson Road.

This work is being done in preparation of service tie-overs into the new water main. At a later date, water service will be interrupted in order to complete the tie-over phase. With the warmer weather creeping in to the area, construction crews will be out in full force over the next few weeks. The City’s contractor, D’Allessandro Corporation, has already mobilized and is currently performing drain and water service upgrades on Fawcett Street. In addition to the City’s contractor, crews from Verizon, Comcast, NStar Gas, NStar Electric, and companies associated with the 70 Fawcett Street Development Project will be on site. During this construction season, there will be a great deal of activity, and at times crews may be working on Fawcett Street simultaneously.

The City’s contractor, D’Allessandro Corporation, will be mobilizing on Fawcett Street to facilitate upgrades to the water main within the next two (2) weeks. Two (2) construction crews will be present on Fawcett Street and are expected to be working on opposite ends of the street. This water main work is expected to take place over the next five (5) to six (6) weeks. If water service is scheduled to be interrupted, those affected will be notified of this shut down at least seventy-two (72) hours in advance, so that they can take the appropriate steps to store water for anticipated needs during the shutdown.

The City of Cambridge has awarded a contract for the reconstruction of Fawcett Street to the D’Allessandro Corp, who will begin to mobilize in mid to late December.

The reconstruction of Fawcett Street between Concord Avenue and Smith Place will include: 

* New sidewalks and pedestrian ramps along the entire length of Fawcett Street to improve pedestrian mobility and safety.

* New street paving.

* Elements to enhance the visual character of Fawcett St and to improve the quality of the water discharged to the Alewife Brook. 

* New street trees. 

* Landscaped areas, including bio-retention areas.

* Pervious asphalt.

* Improvements to the drainage and sanitary sewer systems and a new 12” water main.
