As part of the Appleton Infrastructure Improvements Project, the City’s contractor, P.Gioioso & Sons, is scheduled to begin utility work on Appleton Street between Brattle and Highland Streets the week of August 22.This contract also includes improvements on Newport Rd and Roseland St, in Porter Square.

Staff from the Department of Public Works (DPW) will manage this project.

During the week of May 8, crews will begin reconstructing the roadway on Appleton St, from Brattle St to Highland St. We expect the road work to take about 10 days to complete.  Once crews finish the road work, they will begin sidewalk reconstruction in this section.  All utility work is complete.

We would expect final paving on Appleton St to take place this summer.

Please check back for updates.

###

The contractor will begin pre-construction activities in mid-August. We expect the utility portion of the work to take about 2-3 months to complete, depending on the contractor’s schedule and weather conditions. The scope of work includes water main replacement, drainage and sewer upgrades, reconstructed street and sidewalks, and a raised intersection at Appleton and Highland Streets.
Surface improvements will take place at a later date.

Crews are expected to finish the utility work portion of this project in late December 2016. Surface improvements will take place in spring 2017.

Please check back for schedule updates.

The improvements on Appleton Street were presented at a community meeting held on March 30, 2016 at the Tobin School, as a continuation of the current construction in the greater Huron Avenue area. This contract also includes improvements on Newport Rd and Roseland St, which is expected to begin once the utility work on Appleton is complete.

Staff from the Department of Public Works (DPW) will manage this project.
