June 5, 2017

Crews are scheduled to pave Mass Ave, between Linnaean St and Upland Rd (both sides), this Sunday, June 11. Work hours will be 7 AM on Sunday to 4 AM on Monday morning, June 12. Vehicular access on Mass Ave will be restricted at times while crews perform the paving.  Please plan accordingly.

May 30, 2017

  • Crews are scheduled to mill the roadway on Mass Ave, between Linnaean St and Upland Rd (both sides) this Sunday, June 4.  Work will begin at 7 AM on Sunday, through the overnight hours on Monday, June 5.  Mass Ave will remain open during the operation.  Paving is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, June 11.
  • Later this week, crews will construct a raised crosswalk on Mass Ave at Arlington St (Thursday, June 1).

  • Crews will continue with sidewalk improvements on Mass Ave, in the section between Arlington St and Upland Rd.  On Thursday, 5/18, crews will begin installing a new crosswalk across Mt Vernon St.

April 24, 2017

Crews will resume reconstructing sections of sidewalk on Mass Ave between Lancaster St and Arlington St on Monday, May 1.  We apologize for the delay.

April 14, 2017

On Saturday, April 15th, the city’s contractor, Newport Construction, will be on site to pave the raised crosswalk across Lancaster Street at Mass Ave. Work hours will be 9am-2pm on Saturday.

Crews will be able to complete the work from Lancaster St. and this is not anticipated to affect traffic on Mass Ave. After the completion of the paving, Lancaster Street will be reopened for the remainder of the long weekend.

What to Expect During Construction:
  • General work hours will be 9AM to 2 PM on Saturday. 
  • “No Parking” signs will be posted at least 24 hours in advance of construction; please be sure to check posted signs for exact dates and times. 
  • When work occurs directly in front of driveways or entryways, the contractor will coordinate access directly with businesses and residents.

Crews will mobilize to Mass Ave at Lancaster to begin surface improvements.  They will replace sections of deteriorating sidewalks and pedestrian ramps.

Crews are scheduled to mobilize on Mass Ave, between Linnaean St and Upland Rd, during the week of  April 3 to begin surface improvements. All drainage work is complete.

During the week of April 10, crews will return to reconstruct sections of deteriorated sidewalk (between Arlington St and Upland Rd only) reconstruct side street crosswalks and pave the roadway on Mass Ave between Linnaean St and Upland Rd. 

We expect the improvements to be completed in mid-June. 



Project Details

• Improve sections of deteriorating sidewalk and curb on Mass Ave. Most of the work will take place on the west side, between Arlington St and Upland Rd (May 2017).

• Install two catch basins on Lancaster St at Mass Ave (complete).

• Reconstruct crosswalks at the side streets (May 2017).

• Roadway paving on Mass Ave, Linnaean St to Upland Rd (June 2017).
