New Tree Ambassador Program Rides through Cambridge

This summer, the Cambridge Department of Public Works launched a new program to help care for young street trees in the City. The Tree Ambassador/Water-by-Bike program is geared towards educating residents and business owners about young tree care. Our first Tree Ambassador, Sidia Escobar (pictured here), has spent the summer biking around Cambridge, speaking to residents and business owners about tree care, watering young trees and performing tree well maintenance.

The City owns over 17,000 trees, and the first few years of a newly planted tree are the most important. Young trees need your help! Residents and business owners are encouraged to:

    1. Weed: Pull weeds from the tree well and remove trash in the planted area.
    2. Water: Fill the gator bag when the bag is empty (about once per week).
    3. Mulch: Around the base of the tree to help keep the soil cool.
