We know the past couple weeks have been tough for cyclists. Since February 8, our crews have worked 11,600 combined person-hours above and beyond our normal work week, in order to plow/ salt streets, clear sidewalks adjacent to public buildings/ parks, and remove snow from prioritized bus stops, crosswalks and ramps, narrow streets and intersections. We have hauled away about 13,000 tons of snow from City streets and sidewalks in the past 2 weeks.
Still, the volume of snow on the ground has prevented fully clearing roadways and cycle lanes. We encourage bikers in the winter to wear reflective clothing, use lights and take the travel lane when bike lanes are not available. We also encourage motorists to be patient and share the road with all users.
We truly appreciate your patience during the winter season.
