Two Cambridge Department of Public Works employees were honored with the Ruth and Carl F. Barron Family Achievement Award on September 14, 2015 at DPW headquarters located at 147 Hampshire Street in Cambridge.

Owen O’Riordan, Commissioner of Public Works, recognized Kara Falise and Jahi Murrell at a small ceremony attended by their peers.

Falise, a Senior Engineer, received this recognition due to the level of dedication, attention to detail, and patience she brings to her job.  She joined DPW in October 2011 as a contract Project Manager/Engineer before being promoted to Senior Engineer in 2012.

“Kara effectively responds to residents to ensure that their concerns are heard and issues are addressed,” said Commissioner O’Riordan.

Murrell, a fulltime Laborer, was honored because of the dedication and reliability he has demonstrated.  Murrell joined DPW as a fulltime employee in October 2011 after serving as a seasonable Laborer between 1999 and 2010.

“Jahi is a very dedicated employee,” said Commissioner O’Riordan.  “He is an asset not only to the Solid Waste Division having served in both Sanitation and Street Cleaning roles, but to the department as a whole because of the positive attitude and commitment he brings to his work each day.”

The Ruth and Carl F. Barron Family Achievement Award, established in 1992, is, “Presented in recognition of outstanding productivity, distinguished performance and service to the City if Cambridge and Department of Public Works.”  Mr. Barron, a fixture in Cambridge, was an enthusiastic supporter of the City of Cambridge and the Department of Public Works.
