General Regulations

  • The Cemetery is open during the summer season from 7:00 a.m. until dusk and during the winter season from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The Cemetery Office is open from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This schedule is subject to change without notice by the Superintendent of Cemeteries if required by Cemetery needs. 
  • If an emergency occurs after 3:00 p.m. call 617.349.4800.
  • No burials will be made on Sundays or Holidays.
  • There will be an extra charge for all funerals on Saturdays and those that arrive at the Cemetery after 2:00 p.m. on weekdays.
  • All orders for interments must be received at lease twenty-four hours before time of burial.

 

  • The Superintendent of Cemeteries will be in full charge of all funerals within the Cemetery.
  • All burials shall be made by Cemetery employees upon the payment of such charges as may from time to time be fixed by the Superintendent of Cemeteries as approved by the City Manager.
  • The Superintendent of Cemeteries must be furnished with all permits, certificates and orders signed by the authorized person.
  • The Superintendent of Cemeteries may reschedule an interment to a more appropriate time if too many funerals arrive at the same time.

 

  • Visitors to the Cemetery are required to use only the avenues, roads and paths and should not walk on or across lots unless it is necessary to gain access to a particular lot.
  • The Cemetery cannot be responsible for any injuries or damages sustained by any person who violates these rules.
  • Automobiles and other vehicles must be operated or parked exclusively on paved road surfaces and as directed by the Superintendent of Cemeteries while within the Cemetery.
  • A speed limit of 15 M.P.H. will be strictly enforced.
  • Receptacles for trash are located conveniently throughout the Cemetery.

 

  • The Cemetery reserves the right to correct any errors which may occur when it is making interments and disinterments. The Cemetery is not responsible for any interment orders given by telephone or any mistake occurring from lack of precise and proper instructions.
  • A disinterment will be allowed as stated in the Disinterment Policy. The Superintendent of Cemeteries is the final authority in determining candidates for disinterment.
