The Cambridge Water Department is currently installing a new water main between St. Mary Road and Hampshire Street.
Cambridge Park Drive (no link)
As part of the ongoing construction of the Contract 12 – Cambridge Park Drive Drainage Improvements Project, the City’s contractor P. Gioioso & Sons, Inc., will begin reconstructing the pedestrian ramps and mill and overlay of roadway on Cambridge Park Drive from 125 Cambridge Park Drive to Cambridge Park Place. The contractor mobilized for roadway and sidewalk work on Cambridge Park Drive on Wednesday, September 24, 2014. Work is expected to be complete in 3-4 weeks.
Cambridge Street Tunnel
On Friday, October 17, the City’s contractor, MIG Corporation, will close the eastbound portion of the Cambridge Street Tunnel (Harvard Square towards Cambridge Fire Headquarters), in order to pour new concrete flooring. The eastbound portion of the tunnel will be closed from 3AM – 4PM. This closure was originally scheduled for today, but due to unforeseen circumstances, it was rescheduled for this Friday. Motorists travelling in the westbound lanes will not be impacted. There will be a final westbound closure at the end of October, and we expect all construction activities to be complete in November. VIEW DETOURS
Crews have mobilized to the area to replace the 2” concrete overlay in the Cambridge Street Tunnel. The concrete overlay, which was installed in the summer of 2013, did not bond properly with the floor of the tunnel and began failing last fall. Over the winter and spring, sections of the overlay deteriorated and had to be replaced with temporary asphalt patches. The work will be done in phases to maintain one travel lane in each direction of the tunnel, and is expected to be completed by October 2014.
This week, crews will be performing curb installation at Flagstaff Park.

On Tuesday , October 14, crews will begin the process of lining the water main on Main St from Ames St to Wadsworth St. The work is being performed at night due to the necessary water shutdowns associated with the lining operation. All impacted properties have been notified.
On Tuesday evening, crews will line the main from Ames St to the Kendall MBTA Station. Ames St at Main St will be closed on Tuesday starting at 8 PM, and will reopen once crews clear intersection. On Wednesday evening, October 15, crews will line the main from the Kendall MBTA station to Wadsworth St (Ames St will be open during this phase). We expect the operation to take two nights to complete, however crews may be onsite Thursday evening if necessary. Work hours on Tuesday and Wednesday will be 6 PM to 6 AM. We don’t anticipate the lining to be noise intensive, however there will be noise from the generators onsite and crews will need to utilize additional lighting.
