As part of the ongoing construction of the Contract 12 – Cambridge Park Drive Drainage Improvements Project, the City’s contractor P. Gioioso & Sons, Inc., will begin reconstructing the pedestrian ramps and mill and overlay of roadway on Cambridge Park Drive from 125 Cambridge Park Drive to Cambridge Park Place. Paving is now scheduled for Monday, October 27 (weather permitting).
Cambridge Street Tunnel
Beginning at 11pm on Monday, October 20, the City’s contractor, MIG Corporation, will close the eastbound portion of the Cambridge Street Tunnel (Harvard Square towards Cambridge Fire Headquarters), in order to pour new concrete flooring. The eastbound portion of the tunnel will be closed from 11pm through 12pm on Tuesday, October 21. Motorists travelling in the westbound lanes will not be impacted. There will be a final westbound closure at the end of October, and we expect all construction activities to be complete in November. Please click here to view detour.
Crews have mobilized to the area to replace the 2” concrete overlay in the Cambridge Street Tunnel. The concrete overlay, which was installed in the summer of 2013, did not bond properly with the floor of the tunnel and began failing last fall. Over the winter and spring, sections of the overlay deteriorated and had to be replaced with temporary asphalt patches. The work will be done in phases to maintain one travel lane in each direction of the tunnel, and is expected to conclude in November 2014.
As part of the Cambridge Common/Flagstaff Park Improvements Project, MassDOT’s contractor, Newport Construction, will mill the surface of the roadway on Massachusetts Ave from Garden St to Waterhouse St on Tuesday, October 21 and Wednesday, October 22, in preparation of paving. Work hours for the nighttime milling operation will be 9 PM to 5 AM on both nights and Massachusetts Ave will remain open without detours. Paving is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26 (daytime).
