Weekly Construction Highlights

CITY PROJECT UPDATES FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 13, 2015

Amory Street
The Cambridge Water Department has completed the installation of the water main and services on Amory Street from Broadway to Hampshire. Within the next couple of months, Eversource Gas is expected to mobilize to the area to replace the gas main and service on Amory Street from Broadway to Hampshire. The final streetscape design will be posted to the projects website during the week of April 20, 2015.

Cambridge Common
This week, the state's contractor, Newport Construction, will be installing foundation for furniture and lighting, as well as excavating for the new pathway that will be installed as part of this project.

Concord Ave Project
Activity Description
• Chilton (Concord to Field)- Sewer and drain
• Chilton (Concord to Vassal)- Catch basins and water
• Field (Alpine to Fayerweather)- Water services
• Field (Alpine to Fern)- Water
• Contract wide- Inverts

Streets Impacted: Chilton Street and Field Street

Eversource Gas:
• Brattle (Fayerweather to Channing)- Gas main
• Garden Street (Alpine to Hazel) - Gas main
• Walden Street (Garden to Sherman) - Gas main


Elm & Hampshire Streets Plaza Renovation
Crews will be onsite this week to continue with the reconstruction of the plaza at the intersection of Elm Street and Hampshire Street.

Fairmont Street/Pleasant Street Intersection
This week, crews will be installing catch basins in the area to prepare for the installation of raised crosswalks on Fairmont Street and a bump-out on Pleasant Street.


Fulkerson Street
Last week, the city’s contractor, D’Allessandro Corporation, resumed construction activities on Fulkerson St, between Cambridge St and Charles St. Remaining work includes drainage upgrades, sidewalk and roadway reconstruction, and final paving. We expect the work to take about 3 months to complete.

Harvard Square Improvements
This week crews will be performing test pits on Mt. Auburn Street in preparation for sidewalk and roadway reconstruction.

Harvard Square Public Toilet
Crews are currently performing test pits for utility work.


Hurley Street Park Renovation
Crews will be onsite this week to continue with the reconstruction of Hurley Street Park.


Huron A Project 
Activity Description:
• Larch (South)- Curb and sidewalk, drain lateral work
• Contract wide- Miscellaneous punch list items

Streets Impacted: Lakeview Avenue and Larch Road

Eversource Gas:
• Brattle (Fayerweather to Channing)- Gas main
• Garden Street (Alpine to Hazel) - Gas main
• Walden Street (Garden to Sherman) - Gas main

Huron B Project
Activity Description:
• Appleton (Concord to Huron)- Drain and sewer
• Chilton (Huron to Vassal)- Drain laterals
• Fayerweather (Brattle to Huron)- Drain laterals

Streets Impacted: Appleton Street, Chilton Street and Fayerweather Street

Eversource Gas:
• Brattle (Fayerweather to Channing)- Gas main
• Garden Street (Alpine to Hazel) - Gas main
• Walden Street (Garden to Sherman) - Gas main


Kinnaird Street Reconstruction
The City's contractor, D'Allessandro Corporation, will be mobilizing to the area on Tuesday, April 21 to begin the installation of a new water main. More details will become available towards the end of the week.

Pemberton Street Courts
The City's contractor is scheduled to complete the painting of the tennis/basketball courts, seal the surface, and complete the reconstruction of a few sidewalk panels at the main entrance by mid May. All of the basketball nets and tennis nets are up and functional so that sports teams and residents can utilize them.


Main Street
This week, crews will be installing conduit at the intersection of Broadway and Main Street. Full depth of sidewalks and roadway is expected to begin next week.

Massachusetts Avenue
There is no scheduled work this week.

Mead Street
There is no scheduled work this week. Crews anticipate on mobilizing to the area in mid-June to reconstruct the sidewalks and roadway.

Mt. Auburn Street
There is no work scheduled for this week.

New Street & Concord Lane
Crews are expected to mobilize to the area in early May to reconstruct the sidewalks and roadway.

Western Ave Reconstruction Project
Crews are currently working on the reconstruction of Cronin Park.
