Weekly Construction Highlights

CITY PROJECT UPDATES FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 27, 2015

Amory Street
Eversouce Gas (formerly known as NStar Gas) will be mobilizing to Amory Street during the week of May 4 to begin replacing the outdated gas main and individual services from Broadway to Hampshire Street. This work is expected to take 2 months to complete.

Cambridge Common
This week, the state's contractor, Newport Construction, will continue excavating for the new pathway and installing a new pedestrian traffic signal at Flaggstaff Park. 

Concord Ave Project
Activity Description
• Chilton (Concord to Field)- Sewer and drain
• Chilton (Concord to Vassal)- Catch basins and water
• Field (Alpine to Fayerweather)- Water services
• Field (Alpine to Fern)- Water
• Contract wide- Inverts

Streets Impacted: Chilton Street and Field Street

Eversource Gas:
• Brattle (Fayerweather to Channing)- Gas main
• Garden Street (Alpine to Hazel) - Gas main
• Walden Street (Garden to Sherman) - Gas main


Elm & Hampshire Streets Plaza Renovation
Crews will be onsite this week to continue with the reconstruction of the plaza at the intersection of Elm Street and Hampshire Street.

Fairmont Street/Pleasant Street Intersection
There is no work scheduled for the week of April 27, 2015.


Fulkerson Street
The city’s contractor, D’Allessandro Corporation, continues to reconstruct the sidewalks on Fulkerson St, between Cambridge St and Charles St. Remaining work includes  roadway reconstruction and final paving.

Harvard Square Improvements
Full-depth roadway reconstruction is scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 30. The activity will include stripping the existing roadway conditions. This phase of the project is scheduled to be completed during the week of May 4.

Harvard Square Public Toilet
The Portland Loo toilet is expected to arrive in the area (shipped from Washington State) in mid-May, with the expectation that the construction crews will have it installed by the end of May 2015.


Hurley Street Park Renovation
Crews will be onsite this week to continue with the reconstruction of Hurley Street Park.


Huron A Project 
Activity Description:
• Larch (South)- Curb and sidewalk, drain lateral work
• Contract wide- Miscellaneous punch list items

Streets Impacted: Lakeview Avenue and Larch Road

Eversource Gas:
• Brattle (Fayerweather to Channing)- Gas main
• Garden Street (Alpine to Hazel) - Gas main
• Walden Street (Garden to Sherman) - Gas main

Huron B Project
Activity Description:
• Appleton (Concord to Huron)- Drain and sewer
• Chilton (Huron to Vassal)- Drain laterals
• Fayerweather (Brattle to Huron)- Drain laterals

Streets Impacted: Appleton Street, Chilton Street and Fayerweather Street

Eversource Gas:
• Brattle (Fayerweather to Channing)- Gas main
• Garden Street (Alpine to Hazel) - Gas main
• Walden Street (Garden to Sherman) - Gas main


Kinnaird Street Reconstruction
The City's contractor, D'Allessandro Corporation, continues to work on the water main from Jay Street to Putnam Avenue. A water service interruption is scheduled for Thursday, April 30. Effected residents will be notified on Monday, April 27.

Pemberton Street Courts
The City's contractor is scheduled to complete the painting of the tennis/basketball courts, seal the surface, and complete the reconstruction of a few sidewalk panels at the main entrance by mid May. All of the basketball nets and tennis nets are up and functional so that sports teams and residents can utilize them.


Main Street
Full depth reconstruction of the sidewalks and roadway is currently underway.

Massachusetts Avenue
Crews will be mobilizing to Linnaean Street on Monday, April 27 to reconstruct the handicap ramps on Linnaean Street at Massachusetts Avenue. This work is expected to be completed during the week of May 4.

Mead Street
There is no scheduled work this week. Crews anticipate on mobilizing to the area in mid-June to reconstruct the sidewalks and roadway.

Mt. Auburn Street
There is no work scheduled for this week. Crews anticipate mobilizing to the area in mid-June to reconstruct the sidewalks and roadway.

New Street & Concord Lane
Crews are expected to mobilize to the area in early May to reconstruct the sidewalks and roadway.

Western Ave Reconstruction Project
Crews are currently working on the reconstruction of Cronin Park and the sidewalks on Green Street and Pleasant Street (north of Western Avenue)
