Go Green Awards

For well over a decade in the month of May, the City of Cambridge has honored businesses, institutions, and community leaders for their sustainable practices as part of the annual Go Green awards. Typically the awards ceremony is attended by the winners, City officials, and members of public committees on environmental issues. The event has been a crowning moment for leaders in sustainability in Cambridge and offered a great opportunity for photos and congratulations.

We feel the program is ready for some changes that will better serve the business community and advance sustainable business practices. City staff from Community Development and Public Works are in the process of revamping the program to provide better opportunities for leaders to share their experiences and to engage in peer to peer learning around sustainability. We hope that revamping the program will provide participants with more value, and bring even more businesses, property owners, institutions and community leaders into the sustainability fold. To this end, we will temporarily suspend the Go Green program, and plan to re-launch at a later date.

Through the GoGreen Awards, the City of Cambridge recognizes businesses and organizations that take exceptional environmental actions in at least one of five areas—energy use, transportation, waste reduction, stormwater, and climate protection. Self nominations are accepted. We also recognize a large apartment building for waste reduction.

"The GoGreen Award is an excellent way of recognizing Cambridge businesses for their efforts to preserve the environment and quality of life in Cambridge. Businesses in Cambridge have always been active in promoting and implementing environmental programs, and we want to make sure that their efforts are appreciated and applauded.”   Robert W. Healy, City Manager
