The Cambridge Polystyrene Ordinance takes effect on October 20, 2016.  The ordinance affects all food and drink establishments that serve food or drink in single-use disposable service-ware.  Click here to learn more.

In March 2015, the City Council passed the Bring Your Own Bag Ordinance, which affects commercial establishments. If businesses provide a checkout bag to customers at the point of sale, they must be compliant with this Ordinance. Click here to learn more.

In March 1991, the City Council passed the Mandatory Recycling, which requires recycling at all buildings that generate waste in Cambridge.  See the Rules & Regulations specific to commercial establishments. 

In 1990, Massachusetts waste bans were introduced on land-filling and combustion of easy-to-recycle and toxic materials.  Additional "waste bans" have been phased in over time.
