Yard Waste Collection Begins April 5
Separate yard waste collection for 2010 begins the week of April 5 and ends the week of Dec 13th. Place in paper yard waste bags OR loose in barrels with city “Yard Waste ONLY” stickers, facing the street. Do not staple or tape yard waste bags. No plastic bags.
Recycle leaves, grass and small twigs and branches (no more than 1 inch in diameter or 3 feet in length). Bundle thick tree limbs 3ft x 3ft. Pumpkins are accepted. Place yard waste at the curb by 7am on your collection day or after 6pm the night before. Call DPW 617-349-4800 for stickers.
City Manager Seeks Members for Recycling Committee by April 30
City Manager Robert W. Healy seeks Cambridge residents and local professionals interested in serving on the Recycling Advisory Committee. The Committee has been active for nearly 20 years and should consist of at least nine persons with a demonstrated interest in recycling, composting or waste prevention. Members serve three-year terms in a volunteer capacity and are expected to attend meetings regularly and be willing to work on various short or long-term projects. Interested persons should submit a letter or email by Friday, April 30, 2010 describing their relevant experience and interest in recycling, composting and waste prevention to: Lisa Peterson, DPW Commissioner, 147 Hampshire Street, Cambridge, MA 02140, firstname.lastname@example.org.

In this workshop, you will learn how to use worms to turn your garbage into "black" gold keeing food scraps in two 10-gallon plastic containers, making nourishing soil and compost tea for houseplants.
