Cambridge Recycling at the Science Festival! 4/22
• 4/22 – Sustainability in Cambridge – What’s it All About? Join the conversation.
Learn about Net Zero, Composting, Hubway, Energy Efficiency, EcoDistricts, and more. Light refreshments will be served. 3-5pm, Cambridge Innovation Center - One Broadway, 5th Floor. RSVP to jlawrence@cambridgema.gov.
• 4/22 – Save That Banana Peel and Eat Your Veggies Free Workshop
6pm, Cambridge Innovation Center - One Broadway, Havana Room. Learn your options to compost and ways to reduce food waste ways from Cambridge's Recycling Director, Ms. Randi Mail. RSVP to recycle@cambridgema.gov.

Household Hazardous Waste Day 5/3
There’ll be four HHW days this year. Cambridge residents only, bring proof of residency. We accept auto fluids, batteries (non alkaline), car tires, glues, medications, mercury items, paint products, solvents, and propane tanks (20 lbs or less). If the product label includes the words POISON, DANGER, WARNING, or CAUTION, bring to HHW day. Click here for more info including alternative options and what you can bring to the Recycling Center during open hours.

All HHW Days are on a Saturday from 9am-1pm, note the different locations:

• May 3 at the Parking Lot on Field St at Fern St by Danehy Park
• June 7 at the Volpe Transportation Building Parking Lot (55 Broadway)
• August 23 at the Parking Lot on Field St at Fern St by Danehy Park
• October 4 at the Volpe Transportation Building Parking Lot (55 Broadway)

Do Something Super with Unwanted Furniture
Moving June 1st and can’t take it all? Plan ahead and arrange a free pick up.
Items must be clean and usable. Someone’s going to love your stuff.

     1. Email pictures of your good-condition furniture to donations@mahomeless.org.
     2. Schedule a pickup for the end of May…
The Coalition for the Homeless has set special pickup days in Cambridge at the end of May! They take kitchen tables & chairs, couches & sofa chairs, ottomans, hutches, end tables, coffee tables, bed frames, dressers, bookshelves, cabinets, rugs, lamps, dishes, pots & pans, and blankets & linens. Your donations will help low-income and formerly homeless families and individuals furnish their apartments at no cost to them.
**Know that year-round, you can arrange a free pickup just email pictures of your good-condition furniture in advance to donations@mahomeless.org.
     3. Special spring dates for in-home collection of your good-condition furniture:

Recycling Tour 5/22
Cambridge residents and City employees are invited to tour the Casella recycling facility in Charlestown on Thursday, May 22 (morning). No children under 16. Tours last about 2 hours. We walk on narrow catwalks and stairs, close to heavy equipment and at a steady pace with a group. We meet at DPW and carpool. Let us know if you can drive and how many people you can take. Email recycle@cambridgema.gov to sign up and we’ll send more info.

Compost Updates, Yard Waste Labels & Rain Barrel Sale Thru 5/15
• Compost Updates
From Apr-Nov, Cambridge residents can get free compost in small quantities at the Recycling Center during open hours: Tues/Thurs 4pm-7:30pm and Sat 9am–4pm. Bring your own containers. Pemberton Farms at 2225 Mass Ave sells the Soil Saver for $60. Review outdoor composting tips online!

Read about the City’s launch of our curbside pilot  to pickup food scraps in North Cambridge, and note our newest food scraps drop-off on Sherman St at the St. Peters Field parking lot behind the shed.

• Need yard waste labels? Just email us , or pick up some at DPW 147 Hampshire Street during office hours.

• Rain Barrel Sale Thru 5/15
Capture rainwater from your roof, store it in a rain barrel, and use later in your garden. You can reduce storm water runoff, conserve water and recharge groundwater. Buy a 60-gal rain barrel for $69, offer good through May 15.
