Appliance/Large Item Disposal Permit

An Appliance/Large Item disposal permit is required for the pickup of most appliances and large items. You can complete the online form below. Select the item(s) you are purchasing a permit for from the drop down menu, noting that there is no charge for bicycles, exercise equipment, metal desks or filing cabinets. All items in bold on the application are required. Only one item per permit is accepted. If you use the online form, please print the permit and adhere to the item. If you used the online permit form and do not have a printer and would like the permit emailed to you, please request that in the comment box and provide the email address. If you experience technical difficulties while attempting to complete the application, click here for troubleshooting tips. Cost of permit is $25, or $20 for senior citizens (62+). Most items are scheduled for Wednesdays and large TVs/monitors are scheduled for Thursdays. Place items close to curb edge with permit facing street. No commercial or industrial items. Metal items listed as free still have to be scheduled for pickup. You can schedule free metal items by calling 617.349.4800.
Methods of payment include Visa, MasterCard and Discover credit cards, Visa & MasterCard debit cards as well as Electronic debits from a checking account. A convenience fee will be charged: 2.5% for Visa, MasterCard and Discover ($0.63 for each $25.00 permit and $0.50 for each $20.00 senior permit). A $2.00 flat fee is charged for each permit purchased with Electronic debit. Learn more about online payments and convenience fees. Walk-In--You can also purchase an Appliance/Large Item disposal permit by check, money order, cash or credit card in person at DPW during business hours, OR mail a check or money order payable to the ‘City of Cambridge’ to: Dept of Public Works, 147 Hampshire Street, Cambridge, MA, 02139. .
