As the Kendall Square area emerges as a destination for diners, movie goers, shoppers, and visitors, ensuring an adequate supply of short-term parking is an essential component for the success of this area. Beginning on January 12, 2015, the hours of operation for metered street parking will expand from 6 PM to 8 PM, mirroring the meter operations in Harvard Square. The expanded hours will discourage vehicles from using short-term metered space as overnight parking during peak evening business hours. The hourly rate will remain unchanged.

The City of Cambridge’s parking meter program provides short-term parking for residents, visitors, and patrons of Cambridge businesses. Limiting the duration of time that a vehicle can occupy a parking space helps ensure that the city’s busy business districts remain vibrant places to eat, meet friends, and spend time in the evenings.

The City is in the process of updating the decals on the meters and parking signs in the impacted area to reflect the new hours.

Enforcement of the new hours will begin on January 12, 2015.
