When moving, apply online for a moving van permit. City staff will post signs reserving a space for your van to park.
Please note: Due to the July 4 holiday (City offices are closed on July 3), permit applications submitted between 5:00 PM on Tuesday June 30 and 5:00 PM Wednesday July 1 cannot be effective until Wednesday July 8. Applications received between 5:00 PM on Wednesday July 1 and 11:59pm on Sunday July 5 cannot be effective until Thursday July 9.
The City provides a variety of parking permits.
Resident Parking Permits allow Cambridge residents to park vehicles registered in their names at the Cambridge address at which they live to park at locations throughout the City which are posted "Permit Parking Only."
Visitor Parking Permits allow people visiting a Cambridge resident to park near the resident's home during their visit.
Street Occupancy permits are available online for residents who wish to park moving vans, moving containers or crates, dumpsters or trucks being used for construction projects on City streets and for special events or block parties. The City posts temporary no parking signs for these permits. If you see one of these signs, read it carefully to ensure that the location at which you are parking is not temporarily a no parking zone.
The Traffic, Parking and Transportation Department must also sign-off on permits issued by other City Departments including curb cut and building permits for large projects.
