Active duty veterans serving overseas for 45 days are eligible for motor vehicle excise tax exemption

11/9/2009

This new law will exempt from the motor vehicle excise Massachusetts residents who are on active duty military outside the country for at least 45 days of the excise calendar year. If the service member is wounded or killed in an armed conflict, the exemption applies regardless of the number of days deployed. As with all motor vehicle excise exemptions for individuals found in G,L, c. 60A, S1, the service member may exempt only one vehicle owned and registered for personal use.
