Jordan Marsh fire

The Jordan Marsh Warehouse fire occurred on July 17, 1965. The building was a five story building and was located on Commercial St. (now known as Land Blvd.) opposite the Sonesta Hotel. The fire broke out on the top floor and was fanned by high winds off the Charles River; in addition firefighters were hampered by low water pressure.

Three alarms were sounded on box 134 and many special calls above that were made for additional fire companies. At the height of the fire 4 ladder pipes and 7 deck guns operated, and in addition to hydrants used, 6 pumpers drafted water from the Charles River, which made it the largest drafting operation in Cambridge Fire History.  Historical information provided by Ed Morrissey.
