Harvard Square Advisory Committee and Related Activities
Harvard Square Advisory Committee
The Harvard Square Advisory Committee is appointed by the City Manager to undertake all large project reviews and to receive all applications for variances and special permits for activities within the Harvard Square Overlay District. The Committee meets as needed, on an irregular basis.

The Draft Harvard Square Development Guidelines are intended to help guide future incremental growth and change in the Harvard Square Overlay District, both as new buildings are constructed and old buildings are adapted and changed to accommodate new uses and changing fashions.

Harvard Square Conservation District and Neighborhood Conservation Districts
The Harvard Square Conservation District is administered by the Cambridge Historic Commission. Neighborhood conservation districts, or NCDs, recognize the particular design qualities of distinctive neighborhoods and encourage their protection and maintenance. NCDs located in or near the Harvard Square Overlay District include the Half Crown-Marsh Neighborhood Conservation District and the Mid-Cambridge Neighborhood Conservation District.

The list of neighborhood associations, which includes information about the Harvard Square Defense Fund, is solely offered as an aid the public. Please note that these organizations are independent of the City of Cambridge; any views and opinions they may express are strictly those of the organization.
