Release of Envision Cambridge Citywide Plan Marks Culmination of Three-Year Planning and Public Engagement Process.

The City of Cambridge has released the Envision Cambridge citywide plan, the culmination of a three-year planning and public engagement process. The plan articulates the core values identified by the Cambridge community: livability, diversity and equity, economic opportunity, sustainability and resilience, community health and wellbeing, and learning, and creates a vision for the future of the city. The Envision Cambridge plan recommends 55 strategies and 183 new, expanded or modified actions that span a range of focus areas and offer a roadmap to a sustainable, inclusive, and connected Cambridge.

“We’re pleased to share the Envision Cambridge citywide plan, a culmination of three years of community engagement and public process,” said City Manager Louis A. DePasquale. “While this is an exciting milestone, our work is just beginning. We are committed to continuing public engagement as we transition to the plan’s implementation and prioritization of its actions and strategies. I want to thank the City Council, community, and City staff for their contributions during the Envision process.”

The planning process encompassed extensive community outreach through traditional public meetings, print and digital engagement, workshops, surveys, events, walking tours, and street team activities including the Mobile Engagement Station.

“The Envision Cambridge process engaged over 5,000 community members from all 13 of the city’s neighborhoods. We heard from multi-generational residents and those who recently moved to Cambridge, business owners and employees, students and seniors, and people of diverse backgrounds, including non-native English speakers,” said Iram Farooq, Assistant City Manager for Community Development. “We look forward to continuing this level of engagement as we further vet and prioritize the recommendations proposed by the citywide plan. Together we shaped this plan and together we will bring our shared vision for the future of Cambridge to life.”

In the next fiscal year, the Community Development Department, which led the citywide planning process, will establish an engagement team to enhance inclusion in planning processes, broaden civic engagement, and better reach under-served communities.
