The Small Business Challenge is an annual grant program that invites Cambridge business associations and groups of businesses to propose projects that will enhance and invigorate their commercial areas and business districts. Projects that support marketing, place-making, and technology/skill training are eligible for up to 100% reimbursement.

Past awardees have used funds to install placemaking banners and decorations, host neighborhood shopping events, lead themed walking tours, hire professional photographers, update event logos and branding, refresh business association websites, and create digital holiday shopping guides.

Grant funding per project has increased, with eligible projects qualifying for grants between $3,000 - $7,000.

Applications for the Fall 2021 funding round are now open and due September 27, 2021. A second funding round will occur in late Spring 2022, with applications due February 21, 2022.

Information about eligible projects, funding timelines, and other important regulations can be found in the Small Business Challenge Application and Guidelines.
