Join the City of Cambridge and Communities Responding to Extreme Weather (CREW) in observing Climate Preparedness Week, September 24 - 30, 2018. Through a book discussion, poster exhibit, and other events, the community will come together to learn about city planning climate preparedness efforts and actions that households can take to prepare for climate change-related impacts and emergencies. 

Friday, September 21
PARK(ing) Day / Climate Preparedness Week Kickoff 
8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Citywide

150 metered parking spots across the city will be transformed into temporary parks and activity hubs. Several spots will be devoted to emergency preparedness and environmental sustainability, with parklets hosted by CREW, the Cambridge Fire Department, Emergency Communications, the Cambridge Energy Alliance, CDD's Environmental and Transportation division, the Cambridge Health Alliance, the Department of Public Works, and more. Climate Preparedness Poster Exhibit
City Hall lobby, 795 Massachusetts Ave. 

This exhibit provides an overview of City initiatives related to climate preparedness and resiliency and actions that the community can take to prepare for a changing climate and climate-related emergencies. It will be on display in City Hall throughout the week. 

Wednesday, September 26
Community Book Discussion of The Nature Fix by Florence Williams
Cambridge Public Library, Main Branch Community Room, 449 Broadway
6:30-8:30 p.m.

In The Nature Fix, Williams sets out to uncover the science behind nature’s positive effects on the brain. The book is a must-read for Climate Preparedness Week, as climate change is a threat to nature and its therapeutic powers. Join the community in a moderated discussion about the book.

Saturday, September 29
Minuteman Bikeway 25th Anniversary Reception
Alewife T station
9:00 - 11:00 a.m.

Join Cambridge, Arlington, Lexington, and Bedford in a celebration of the Minuteman Bikeway. In cases of extreme weather, it is important that infrastructure exists for walking and biking as a viable option for transportation. The event will include conversations about climate preparedness, specifically around the wetlands in the Alewife area.

Saturday, September 29
Climate Preparedness Community Celebration and BBQ
Greene-Rose Heritage Park, 155 Harvard St.
12:00p.m.-3:00p.m.

Join the City in celebrating the culmination of Climate Preparedness Week! Enjoy food and activities and learn more about climate preparedness resources. 

Sunday, September 30
Annual Bow Tie Ride
Meet at Cambridge Public Library, 449 Broadway
10:00a.m. - 2:00p.m. 

The annual community bike ride begins and ends at the Library's Main Branch and will include conversations about climate preparedness.
