Background

In the fall of 2018, the City of Cambridge installed separated bike lanes and a bus lane on South Massachusetts Avenue between Sydney Street and Memorial Drive. This project was aligned with the City's policies and priorities to improve safety on our streets for all users and ages, and enhance conditions for people using sustainable transportation (per the city’s Complete Streets Policy, Vision Zero Policy, Bicycle Plan, and Transit Plan). Implementation was accomplished mostly through quick-build methods such as re-striping, signal re-timing, signage and installation of materials like flex-posts.The project design process included community and stakeholder meetings.
