Challenges for Space Observatory

The atmosphere is essential for life on earth, but not so for observational astronomy. In certain cases, say X-ray for example, where the atmosphere almost completely blocks out the radiation, sending telescopes and detectors into space becomes necessary. Space is far from peacefully empty but is full of various hazards. In this month's Mysteries of the Cosmos, we will look at the challenges faced by space astronomy and the solutions that scientists have come up with.

Program is free and open to the public.
